GO GREEN

CityReach is proud to maintain a #gogreen initiative, and we would love your support!
We are inspired by, and working toward, the City of Vancouver ‘Greenest City’ campaign in order to better steward the gift of the earth and a healthy environment for all.

The goals of the City of Vancouver in pursuing a zero waste future include:

  • Conserving resources

  • Preventing waste of all types, including wasted food at all points between farm and table

  • Composting inedible food or convert it into fuel

  • Repairing and maintaining products and materials to extend their lives

  • Sharing, reusing, and refurbishing products and materials before recycling them

  • Keeping pollution out of the environment

  • Diversifying and growing our economy

  • Ensuring everyone has access to healthy food

WITH THIS IN MIND, WHAT IS CITYREACH DOING TO #GOGREEN?
Currently, we have committed to:

-Having Recycling and Compost available at all events and at our facility permanently for our recurring programs

-Using compostable materials for food service at our events (cups, bowls, cutlery etc.)

-Offering ‘Water Refill’ stations and encouraging guests to bring their own water bottle instead of distributing plastic single use bottles at events

-Reducing the amount of plastic waste at our events

-Encouraging people to take public transit, carpool or bicycle to events, including having bike racks available at our facility

-Using social media/web/email marketing to reduce paper waste

-Striving for zero food waste at our programs and events, by repurposing any left over food to other programs and participants

-Being more cautious of energy use during programs/events and when our building is not in use

-Launching our ‘CityReach Bees’ rooftop honeybee apiary. More info HERE

-Offering our ‘Food for Families’ fresh food program to the community, to provide healthy food options through partnerships with local food rescue organizations

We are also working toward the following:

-Using compostable / reusable food service items for all programs

-Expanding our ‘Food for Families’ and ‘Food for Families Mobile’ programs to more locations, in order to serve more families with sustainable food options

-Partnering with more organizations within Greater Vancouver who are working toward the same goals, in order to expand our knowledge, experience and impact
